Those looking for non profit jobs (Click here) may want to try connecting with employers through social media.

The 2011 Social Recruiting Survey from Jobvite found that a large majority of companies are still using social networks to recruit potential employees and that more companies are jumping on the bandwagon as time goes on.

“The data show that recruiting departments, like marketing departments, are reaching and engaging their targets in multiple social networks,” Dan Finnigan, Jobvite president and CEO, said in a statement. “The fastest moving companies increasingly use the richness of profiles in LinkedIn, the power of online connections in Facebook, and the instant reach of Twitter to develop valuable talent pools and make new hires.”

The survey found that:

  • 89 percent of companies plan to use social media for recruiting purposes this year.
  • 64 percent of companies have expanded their social recruiting programs to two or more networks.
  • 64 percent of companies have made successful hires through social media.
  • 55 percent of companies will increase their budgets for social recruiting.
  • 87 percent of companies use LinkedIn for recruiting, while 55 percent use Facebook, and 47 percent use Twitter.
  • Over the last six months, 73 percent of all social hires came from LinkedIn, while 20 percent came from Facebook and 7 percent from Twitter.
  • 43 percent of social referral hires came from Facebook, while 41 percent came from LinkedIn and 16 percent from Twitter.
  • 67 percent of respondents plan to hire more employees over the next year.
  • 77 percent of respondents expect to see more competition for open positions.
  • 61 percent of companies plan to recruit from their competitors in the next year.
