No, the world is not fair. Good-looking people do better. Get over it.
Apparently, the world is exactly as superficial as we all feared.
Richard Madison, marketing executive of the online Brighton School of Business and Management in Britain, recently put together some stats on how attractive people fare in their careers — from getting the initial interview to how much money they make.
And for the less-than-gorgeous majority of us, the news isn’t good.
According to Madison, the average call-back rate on resumes is 30% (this is England, remember, so the numbers may not line up exactly with American stats — although we’ve got to believe the ratios will be proportionate.)
Madison says 54% of attractive women get invited in for an interview. Only 7% of the less appealing get a similar call.
Men seem to fare a wee bit better — 47% of attractive men get the call; 26% of the not-so-handsome do as well.
OK, so the beautiful people get a better start. What about the money?
Alas, the news here is just as bad.
Attractive workers make 10% than their homelier colleagues — a percentage that can add up to an extra $230,000 in a lifetime, according to Madison.
