While some HR pros struggle to finish up this year’s ACA reporting process, the IRS’ latest move forces firms to ready themselves for next year’s process.

The agency just released draft versions of Form 1094-C and Form 1095-C for the 2016 ACA reporting year. The draft instructions, which weren’t released with the forms, will be coming in the near future.

Few changes but …

The good news is there are very few changes to the forms employers have worked so hard to familiarize themselves with.

But the IRS did alter some aspects of the forms.

One prime example:

  • Form 1095-C, Part II, Line 14: Codes 1J and 1K have been added. The two new codes will indicate conditional offers of healthcare to spouses.

A conditional offer to a spouse generally occurs when an employer doesn’t permit a spouse to be enrolled in the company’s healthcare plan if that spouse has access to health care through their own employer.

Industry experts expect the draft instructions to provide plenty of details on these new codes.
